Sleepwalking, also called somnambulism, is most common in children, although adults are sometimes affected. Sleepwalkers experience involuntary, independent physical activity during deep sleep, usually including walking. People who sleepwalk are generally not aware of their actions while sleepwalking.

Although sleepwalking does not pose a health risk by itself, people who sleepwalk may accidentally injure themselves during their sleeping activity. For this reason, sleepwalking is addressed primarily by removing obstacles and potential hazards. In some cases, treatment with medication can be helpful.
