Narcolepsy is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness associated with abnormal sleep. The person with narcolepsy may fall asleep suddenly, without warning, or experience episodes of momentary physical weakness or paralysis. Narcolepsy can, in some instances, be accompanied by dream-like hallucinations.

While there is presently no cure for narcolepsy, a number of treatment strategies are available, including behavior modification and medication therapy.
